Lily was five months old on Wednesday...and what she loves is the men in her life. I kid you not, I come in a distant third behind Daddy and Ben. Yes, I carried her for nine months and now provide all sustenance. That doesn't seem to count for much though. She lights up with the full body wiggle whenever they come into the room. I would feel sad and rejected, but it is really, really adorable and endearing....and I do get plenty of big smiles and the like. Dan had to suffer through years of playing a distant second fiddle to me with Ben (and still often does if it is a serious owie) so I don't begrudge him this little baby girl that gushes for him.
And loving her big brother to pieces, well, that is a handy feature. I can't count how many times a day Lily is sitting in her bouncy seat, exer-saucer, or swing that I yell, "Ben please come talk to Lily so I can get this done." He always obliges and it always buys me a few more minutes.
catching the water spilling out of the pitcher I splash over her to rinse her off. She is so captivated by the water and the suds. From the beginning, she has been such an alert baby, very aware of her surroundings. The negative aspect of this is that, from two months, she has been very aware when someone other than Dan or I are holding her...and she doesn't like it one bit.
her "taggy" blankets. She has two handmade blankets with little pieces of ribbon sticking out on all sides- both previously owned (and pretty much ignored) by Ben as a baby. The are getting a lot of chew action with this little fabric sucker.
sleeping in her car seat in the stroller. Napping in the crib...apparently that is for chumps. Lily prefers to be in her car seat and strolled up and down the street until she falls asleep for each nap. As she was so terribly congested and cranky, I have been endulging her. Hannah, sweet soul that she is, even keeps me company pacing up and down the street with me....what a dog!
In case you were wondering, Ben informed me that as of today, he feels like a grown-up and as such is entitled to a whole host of new privileges. Pfffft.
What types of privileges is "grown-up Ben" trying to negotiate?
Very sweet!

Let's see...
he thinks he should be able to watch Star Wars.
he thinks he should be able to stay in the house by himself while I take Lily for a walk and even promises to "keep an eye on the house" for me.
He pretty much thinks he should run his own show in terms of what he eats and what he is allowed to do...now, I might be inclined to hand over more of the reins if it didn't mean a diet of some sort of dried, fried, carbohydrate snack food and 12 hours of television a day!
As an alternative we worked more on our garden today and ate the last harvest of amazingly tasty mini cucumbers from the farmer's market.
How's things?
